How IVF works
Understanding IVF treatment in Delhi
IVF (in vitro fertilisation), often called a test-tube baby treatment, helps when pregnancy does not happen naturally. Eggs are collected from the ovaries, fertilised with sperm in the laboratory, and the resulting embryo is placed back in the uterus. If you are considering IVF treatment, this is how the process works:

Fertility evaluation — Blood tests, an ultrasound scan and a semen analysis to find the cause.

Ovarian stimulation — Daily hormone injections for about 10–12 days to grow several eggs.
- 3
Egg retrieval — A short day-care procedure under sedation, so you feel no pain.
- 4
Fertilisation — Eggs and sperm are combined in our lab, with ICSI where needed.
- 5
Embryo transfer — The healthiest embryo is placed in the uterus three to five days later.
- 6
Pregnancy test — A blood test 12–14 days after the transfer confirms the result.

What is IVF?
IVF which is In Vitro Fertilization is also known as test tube baby. In normal pregnancy, the sperm produced by the male needs to be fertilized with the egg produced by the female body. In cases where natural pregnancy is not possible, these eggs are extracted with the help of a particular instrument and fertilized with the sperm in the laboratory. The eggs are retrieved using a minor procedure called ovum pick up, vaginally. This procedure is carried out under sedation so you don't feel any pain. After the ovum pick-up procedure, the eggs are fertilized with sperm and the resultant embryos are formed within 3 to 5 days. A better embryo is selected and implanted in the uterus of the female partner. The after-procedure is just like any other pregnant woman. After 9 months the baby is delivered normally or through cesarean, accordingly.
